Scrolling in Safari 14.0.1 and Big Sur Jerky

Is anyone else having scrolling issues in Safari? It's now very jerky and choppy, compared to how it was in Safari 13 on Catalina. Im now using Big Sur with Safari 14. Im really disliking this jerkiness.

I trashed Big Sur and did a clean install of Catalina. Installed the Safari 14.0.1 browser and the same thing is now happening with choppy Safari scrolling on Catalina (any graphic heavy site, CNN, Facebook, Fox News etc...) So, I don’t think it’s a Big Sur issue, but rather a new Safari problem.

Not in a hurry to go to Big Sur after my initial use of it anyhow. Really dislike the look & feel, especially the horrible icons and dock. Looks so one-note and old. Everything is square. How boring.

I'm also facing the same issue. Please get this fixed. The problem occurs when scrolling a modal window like a dropdown list or anything that has an overflow function in it and the body or the parent element must stay in place (parent is overflowing but the child has an independent overflow as well).

The issue is the same but can be achieved two ways:

  1. If quickly scrolled to top or bottom -> the scroll flickers
  2. If scrolling over the top or bottom boundaries of overscrolling element "elastic / rubber band scroll" (didn't try x-axis scrolls) -> the scroll flickers

Ps. This is happening at least with following setups:

  1. Big Sur 11.01.1 with Safari 14.0.1
  2. Catalina 10.15.7 with Safari 14.0.1

Thank you for sharing your experience going back to Catalina. I was almost considering this and it would have been a waste of time. It seems to be an issue with Safari and not the OS.

Overall Big Sur has been a disappointment for me. It's my fault for assuming it would run fine on my old 2015 MacBook Pro 13 base model 🙄

Aside from Safari with it's scrolling issues, what really drives me nuts is that most of my mouse clicks take about a full second to register. This results in me thinking I did a "missed click" and clicking again, which results in whatever I click on getting clicked on twice. It's annoying and time wasting to say the least.

Came here hoping for an answer 🤷🏻‍♂️

I have this issue in Safari too. It appears to happen only on YouTube, at least for me. Sometimes it "fixes" itself when I expand the video description, but even getting to that "Show More" link is hard most of the time.

I'm using Big Sur on a 2015 MacBook Pro 13 base model. It worked fine on Catalina.

Hello! I have the same issue with Safari 14.0.1 :( I've moved to MacOS Catalina (latest version) on a Macbook Pro mid 2012. The same websites in Google Chrome work smooth, but on Safari I instantly noticed that something is wrong, cause my eyes hurt from this choppy scrolling, especially on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. How can I solve this issue? What steps we should do to get it run properly?! I don't want to move to Google Chrome, but I can't revert to Safari 13 without using hacks and tricks which i don't want to apply.
