Issue with printer drivers for HP printer using Catalina

I am running Mac OS Catalina version 10.15.7 and have been having issues printing to my HP laserjet 1010 printer.

I have been seeing messages like those below.

Having checked the HP website it provides the following information at

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06960563

This ties in with the message that I have been seeing

HP Printers - A [software component] will damage your computer message displays when printing or while installing (macOS)

This document is for HP printers, macOS Catalina, and macOS Mojave.

Your printer might experience a temporary disruption after the credentials on some older versions of Mac drivers were unintentionally revoked. HP has worked with Apple to restore these drivers, but some printers might still be affected.

The symptoms of the disruptions can include the following messages:

  • "HPxyz.framework" will damage your computer
  • Software for "%@" failed to run. (-9927)
  • Can't open "/private/var/spool/cups/tmp/..."

If your printer is still unable to print, follow the instructions below to remove and reinstall the HP printer software.

  1. Download HP Uninstaller.zip.
  2. Double-click the HP Uninstaller icon.

I have run the uninstaller programme to remove all of the driver components. When I went to re-install the driver there was not one there on the HP site because the printer is quite old so I added the printer through System Preferences / Printers and Scanners.

It looks like the driver is being loaded from Apple and as soon as it does the errors start appearing again.

I am told there was Catalina fix put in 10 days ago to address this and as I am up to date with software I must have fix installed.

Can someone please help

Yes, apparently Apple does have some printer drivers which I assume they get from the printer people. There are three possible options. (1) Keep checking with HP to see when a driver may become available. I would also ask them when they expect to release one. (2) if your printer has an Air Print option, you can do that and no drive will be needed. (3) Check the link below. They have a lot of drivers for older printers that are no longer supported by the printer manufacturers. They are written by volunteers. You may find a driver there that works on your printer.
