Big Sur Wireless Keyboard Issues

Since upgrading to Big Sur, my wireless Magic Keyboard has a really annoying lag unless it is plugged in directly to the Mac. I've tried resetting PRAM and no good. Not a problem before the upgrade. Anybody else experiencing this? MacBook Pro 16 2019.

Yes, I have a similar problem. The Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad has slow response (1-2 seconds) on Bluetooth with an iMac Pro (at least at startup from upgrade), but is normal when connected via Lighting cable. I am now exploring cable/Bluetooth cycling. Maybe a couple of cycles fixes the problem.

Since it resolved itself for me, it hasn't been an issue. I also went into Bluetooth Preferences and deleted the connection to the keyboard, turned off keyboard, reset PRAM, reconnected the keyboard - anything I could think of that might give a "kick" to the bluetooth - and since then it's behaved.

Just want to bump this issue. I am seeing the same thing on MBP 2020 13".

Wireless keyboards (I've tried two magic keyboards) lag, or are unresponsive in general, as well as stick on certain characters.

I've tried power cycling with minimal effect (issue usually pops back up within an hour or two), bluetooth cycling which does the same as power cycling, and PRAM reset which resolved the issue temporarily for a couple of days before I started experiencing the same thing.

I have the same issue on a brand new i9 10-core iMac 27" with the magic keyboard and trackpad. That enough of us are having this across several bluetooth modules it indicates that isn't the bluetooth module, this is a Big Sur issue. The trackpad is unusable without plugging it in, the keyboard lag is at least tolerable compared to the trackpad lag.

That this issue is marked as "solved" is a bit insulting. This requires a bit more of a solution than "force restart your BT" every few hours.

I’ve got an older Apple magic keyboard (battery slot) also w/o the numerical pad that I originally encountered this issue with. Later got the latest magic keyboard with numerical pad but also saw the same issues.

Mainly seeing lag and stuck letters...I’ll type a whole word and have it show up with some chars repeating 1-2 sec later. I’ve got a ticket open with Apple and they’ve asked me to see if the same issue occurs in Safe Mode.

Well, I have the magic keyboard with numeric keypad, the track pad and Magic Mouse.

The mouse and track pad once in a while loose connection for a few seconds, that's all. The keyboard starts to slow down and delays the input, then the error key start to autorepeat after pressed once.

Shutting off an on will cure the problem 'till next occurrence.

I've never seen this behavior prior to Big Sur.

I have an old battery non-numpad magic keyboard which has had problems since Big Sur upgrade... tried everything listed and it might go for a couple days before experiencing problems. Same as most here, it starts lagging and then it starts throwing chars that I'm not typing, etc... when this happens, my Magic Trackpad 2nd gen quite often starts getting laggy as well... I have even seen the trackpad start lagging without the keyboard on and using a usb keyboard but not near as often as the keyboard... the keyboard is not usable. I have seen all kinds of other issues with bluetooth devices such as audio as well... a logical guess would be that Big Sur has some major bluetooth issues... and has had them since beta... but apparently Apple isn't smart enough to find and fix the problem... gg Apple. fyi, my mbp 16" is the latest model too... shame on you Apple for letting this happen.

I also use an old battery non-numpad magic keyboard which stopped working when I updated to Big Sur. Today I just "reset my bluetooth" (hit Shift-Option and click the Bluetooth icon in the menu bar > Click “Reset the Bluetooth module." > hit ok. then restart the comp. Then I turned the keyboard on and off a couple of times and it finally appeared and I was able to connect to the macbook pro.

Every time I do that, it does work... for anywhere from 30 mins to a couple days... then back to not working. Also, my magic trackpad does the same thing... however, it's tolerable and I can plug that in if I need to which does away with bluetooth connection all together. I'm lucky I had my old apple usb keyboard so I'm just using that, not a big fan of the size as it has the numpad.

I was having the same issue too. Ironically Apple is not aware of this forum because they sent me a replacement keyboard, thinking it was a hardware problem. The problem still persisted. I am currently running Catalina (for this and a problem with my external display not being recognized upon wake from sleep); both problems went away. Both look like Big Sur issues. Fix these problems Apple!

I'm experiencing the same issue with my Magic Keyboard with number pad when connected via Bluetooth. I have a lag that is significant and very noticeable since I updated to MacOS big Sur. I'm also experiencing a severe sticky key with my space bar that it's so annoying it's actually completely interfering with my workflow. (Just to clarify, this is a fairly new keyboard with a protective cover, so I'm 100% sure nothing is stuck under or around the keys, and it's still in like-new condition).

I have used the temp fix mentioned here somewhere to keek it plug in to fix the lag and stick key, and that seems to be working, but I'm upset that this is happening since the whole idea for buying this keyboard is its Bluetooth wireless feature.
