Cannot change order of songs in "Play Next" queue

Hello, not sure if I should ask this here, or on the Big Sur board, but I'll start here.

In the new Music app on Big Sur, I cannot seem to change the order (i.e. "drag") songs around in the "Play Next" feature.

Has anyone else experienced this? I've had zero problems with this for years, until this week when I upgraded.

Is there something new I need to do?

TIA!

Have just had a "virtual" conversation with Apple Support:

12/02/2021, 09:42:49

Me:

Hi - my query is to do with the Music app on my Mac - I am unable to drag and drop items on the "Playing Next" list

<some chit chat removed>

Apple:

There is an option to add to play next there or play later

This must have been removed already from the update but I tried and the drag option is no longer available

Me:

Why not? It's a fundamental need for music playing software!

Apple:

For now, we will submit a feedback request on this to have it added back to the Music app.

You may also want to submit a feedback on your end if you have the time

Me:

oh sure where do I go to do that?

Apple:

http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

Any other notes that I will add before I submit on my end?

Me:

You might ask the Music team to take a look at the forums to see how many other folks are disappointed at this schoolboy error!

Apple:

I will add that as well.

Me

Great, thanks for your help have a good day, stay safe

For interest, the ability to drag and drop on Mac Music is still shown as a feature on the Music help website as of this morning:

alright. Today was my follow-up appointment day with Support. I just got off an hour and 4 minute call with her. We tried a bunch of things. She had me try to create a new music library. She had me try a different user on my Mac. Ultimately, she had me do a screen recording of the issue, and install a Capture Data application to gather system information from my Mac to send to the engineers along with the screen recording. Still no solution, but it's the next step I've taken. I'm scheduled to talk with her again this Thursday. So, cross fingers! :)

As of January 15, 2021, the best Apple can say is it "may" fix the problem. I wish Apple would have warned those who care that if you change to Big Sur you lose the ability to rearrange the order of songs in Playing Next, and Apple may as well change the language in "about iTunes" to indicate Big Sur will not allow the user to rearrange the order of songs in Playing Next. As I indicated previously, I had first reported the issue November 21, 2020 and was told then it was known problem - sadly it appears to be a known problem that will be ignored and forgotten. Were I smart enough to dump Big Sur and reload the previous operating system I would, but that is out of my comfort zone. I hope people continue to complain because I want to believe that eventually the senior management will decide it is worthwhile to fix the problem. I know this is a minor inconvenience in the large scheme of things, but music is an escape and it had been nice to change the order of songs based on the feeling at a particular moment.

I commented on a similar thread recently. I do not have a solution, yet, but I am writing with hope. I spoke to Support about it today. I showed them in their own documentation ( https://support.apple.com/guide/music/use-the-playing-next-queue-musb1e6d1c76/mac) that it shows we're supposed to be able to drag things around in the Playing Next, and they escalated it to the developers for me. so, maybe some good news is coming. Cross fingers. :)

This sounds about right. I notice that I can re-order some tracks but not others. I can't really remember what I bought and what I imported from other places, so I can't confirm if it's only purchased music that can be reordered or not.

If so, what's the logic here? If you get your music from outside the Apple Music store, you should be punished with little inconveniences like these? I don't understand why this would be done on purpose. I'd like to think it's just a glitch but it's so bizarrely specific.
