Cannot change order of songs in "Play Next" queue

How is it even remotely possible that there's still no solution for this essential feature of any music player after months since Big Sur has been released? I find it hard to believe that nobody at Apple hasn't noticed this yet. If this were happening on iOS you can be sure it would be fixed in a matter of hours, not months.

Also, what's going on with the ability to put a single song from Apple Music to Play Next? Why do I need to add an entire album if I just want to play a single song? Same doesn't apply to locally stored songs. After reading each and every post here since November, it's just mind-blowing to find these issues still haven't been resolved.

My guess would be that they're not aware of this issue. Or, as is so often the case in mega-corporations, those who are aware are completely independent of the team that actually assigns bug fixes to the team working on the iTun... <ahem> "Music" app (worst decision for an app rename I can think of)

I reported the same problem the first day I upgraded to Big Sur; as of January 15 still waiting for word from Apple; they seemed to have cancelled my case number so I am once again chatting -- with a bot, I think.

This has now gone on too long as dembo said. It's a major hassle - I work on my Mac and listen to music much of the time - being unable to drag and drop songs in "Play Next" is a ridiculous bug, and frankly makes the "music" experience very tedious.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT APPLE - surely it's an easy fix?

That is ridiculous if they said they "may" fix it. It makes me question if they are planning on phasing out a lot of the old iTunes functionalities related to music that's not streaming music in Apple Music.

Play Next is a crucial feature of any media player that exists on any operating system. Without the ability of reordering tracks we might as well go back to listening CDs for that authentic old-school experience which the Music app is rocking at the moment.

Same thing. Held off upgrading to Big Sur because of your usual early day glitches. And yes having same issue, but more specifically I could rearrange about the first 10 but then it wouldn't let me move anymore. But I noticed further down the list some it would and some it wouldn't.

So - apart from reporting this to Apple and messaging on here, "to whom should we complain?" to quote Shakespeare.

This is ludicrous, and should have been fixed by now. Honestly, it spoils my day, especially working from home in lockdown being unable to choose my own playlist order is totally rubbish.

Just over 51,000 tracks and 445gb, hosted on an external drive. I am not sure whether it impacts things though as it occasionally works, but very rarely and there doesn't seem to be any patterns.

It's not a major issue in the greatest scheme of things, but it is a little frustrating, especially as the same functionality works very well on iPhone.

This problem and the lack of response is maddening. Perhaps only exceeded by the highly flawed Podcasts app which becomes more and more useless every day with horrendous delays in doing very basic things - not to mention using nearly all available memory to run. Apple does many great things but this is a huge black mark for the brand.

Yeah... the same thing happened to me. I just finished the migration assistant being able to arrange the queue order of the upcoming songs were working jest fine in iTunes. Hopefully they'll fix this issue soon!

Now upgraded to 11.2.1 today, and the issue still persists. I'm assuming at this point they have no intentions of fixing the issue. They are probably focused on the streaming platform now and not people who have local libraries.

I wonder if they're waiting for people to give in and use Apple Music exclusively. I will rather ditch the whole platform and all my Apple devices altogether than stop listening to my higher quality local files. Not even community specialists can help here as there are no solutions or workarounds on the horizon for this inconven... I mean problem. Who would have thought that after 2020 you would no longer be able to change the order of the songs in the Play Next queue of the Music app on the Mac? I would have stayed on Catalina had I known what's coming. Music is now the only music player in the world that doesn't allow you performing an essential function of any music software across platforms. I'm seriously hoping some managers on the Music app development team are getting fired or resigning voluntarily to make way for competent employees.

There is an option to add to play next there or play later

If this is how Apple envisioned people to control their music then I'm not sure if I really want to be a part of this ecosystem. What a great idea, let's all click Add to Play Next and Play Later buttons all day long. Not to mention this was not even possible recently. Do they plan to implement this amazing new way of adding songs to Play Next on iOS as well? Why drag and drop when you can do more steps and have fun tapping buttons while you're listening to your music. One by one, one at a time. No need to rush and listen to the whole album. Take your time listening to your favorite songs. Start tapping. Tap away. And coming soon - say goodbye to Next and Previous buttons. Why skip songs when you can enjoy true minimalism that is the ethos of our company. Just click Play and shut up. Less is more.

I'm at loss of words.

I have this problem too. Now that the laptop is upgraded to the Big Sur, I can't do the moving up and down songs in the "Play Next" feature any more, and I need this feature ASAP. Should I take the Big Sur down? Is it a defect in that program?
