Why does Big Sur not recognise my photos

Why does Big Sur not recognise the photos in my folders when I try to change the wall paper on my MacBook air. If I use system preference/desktop screen saver/photos according to big sur all my albums are empty.

If I got go my photo library I can share and send the photo to the desktop.

When will a finished version of BIG Sur complete with better battery management be available?

Hey dhsethsmith,

Thanks again for using Apple Support Communities! It looks like you're having issues with finding photos when setting a new desktop picture for your MacBook Air, and we'd like to help.

This page in the macOS User Guide has the steps to Customize the desktop picture on your Mac.

If you're following these steps, and still not seeing photos, try making photos you'd like to use for the desktop a "Favorite" by clicking on the heart. Then look at "Favorites", as shown in the photo on the above page. This reduces the number of photos to display, and might be quicker.

Or, do as you have been, which is also shown on the above page: "To quickly use a picture you have in the Photos app, select the picture in Photos, click the Share button in the Photos toolbar, then choose Set Desktop Picture."

Take care!

I noticed, that the "Desktop & Screensaver" pane does not show all photos from the library. I am only seeing the photos there, that have been imported as HEIC files and have not been edited. half of my photos are missing from the albums, when I try to select them as a desktop Wallpaper. Try to convert the photos to HEIC using the Preview.app and use the converted file as your Desktop image or the Share menu as suggested by mingoslkd.
