Did you try deleting the printer in System Preferences->Printers & Scanners, and then adding it back? If the printer is supported that ought to be enough. Note that you don’t need any other software to use the printer. Just so long as there is an updated driver, you can print and scan without specific HP software-just print normally, and scan using Preview or Image Capture.

Please read If your HP printer doesn't work and you see a warning that HP software '...will damage your computer' - Apple Support. If HP has a Catalina-compatible driver for that printer, you will find it on HP's Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page (Step 8 of HP's Support document).


Please note that as of this writing, that page does not exist. It's up to HP to fix that too.
