Suggestd process causes high CPU usage - Big Sur

Since i installed Big Sur the suggestd process is using an unusually high amount of CPU (up to 300+%), the Macbook Pro (15-inch, 2017) gets very hot and slow. The only temporary solution is to kill the process via activity monitor - but it starts again just a few hours later.

The suggestd background thread is what thrashes forever, but eventually stops, the problem is, it seems to always want to do this every few hours, bringing the computer to a crawl. It's BACK in Big Sur, and Apple needs to work on why they think a state of the art portable, needs to be taking up 400% of cpu power for a background task, WITHOUT consideration of the user. In our software, we always de-prioritize our threads when the user is using the machine, making it possible for the end user to have access to all it's services and applications without coming to a crawl.

Yes, Apple, it's ok to listen to your users, you aren't perfect, it's ok.

Ahh yes... the notorious suggestd process. Sometimes even unknown to which part of it sinces its so complicated.

Common troubleshooting in the past included

  1. Settings>Apple ID>iCloud Drive (Options>
  2. Uncheck Desktop and Documents folders.
  3. Uncheck Mail

  1. Deleted all email accounts and recreated.
  2. Deleted Mail preferences / accounts preferences / related preferences
  3. Disabled contacts syncing
  4. Disabled calendar syncing

There's also a trend where people with internet disconnected for a period of time will also experience this more.

  1. Mail preferences > Accounts > Advanced > Automatically Detect and Maintain Account Setting

The definitive fix to this is to just stop using the mail app altogether, and just access your emails through the browser.
