Text Messages not received from single number in transition to new iPhone 12 Pro Max

I just moved to a new iPhone 12 pro max from android. It works great except for not being able to receive text messages from my wife’s phone. I can send messages to her but cannot receive them. All other messages apparently(?) are being received. Even more bizarre, I can receive messages from this line as part of a group text. Any advice to fix this problem? (no, despite what some may think it is not a benefit :) ). I spent 3 hour with Verizon/Assurion tech support with no solution including a complete reset.
