Wired Headphones for Calls on iPhone12

I can't figure out how to get my wired earbuds to work with phone calls and facetime on the iphone 12. I have the adapter that changes the 3.5mm to lightning and can use my earbuds for music etc. but when they don't connect with calls. Can anyone help? Thanks!

FIXED.

It's a problem with your adapter cable. I tried several, and they would all play music, they just won't work with phone calls, and I finally found a post by an electrician on some obscure website that explained that problem. It has something to do with most auxiliary cables only supporting 3 pins, vice 4, but I don't think you really care about that. The cable I am using to get my Iphone 12 Pro Max to use my headphones (or in my case my car speakers) is from Amazon: UGREEN Headphones Adapter for Apple MFi Certified iPhone Lightning to 3.5mm Jack Converter for iPhone 12, but there are several that work, that's just the first one where I found the certification difference.

I threw a quick video on youtube that shows that the Ugreen cable works flawlessly own both my Iphone 11 and 12 Pro max. I normally use it in my car, but for the demonstration I just used a wireless speaker. It also works fine with a splitter I have so I can charge my phone at the same time I use it to play music or make phone calls on my car speakers. You may need to hard reset your phone, and it may also try to reach out to other headphone devices that might be associated on bluetooth, so turn off your bluetooth if your phone isn't connecting to your auxiliary cable and that might fix the issue. That being said, I tried several other cables before this one that didn't work, including the Apple one. As posted by several other users, this is once again: UGREEN Lightning to 3.5 mm Cable 3.3FT Mfi Certified 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter Male Aux Stereo Audio Cable for iPhone 12 Mini 12 Pro Max 11 Pro Max X XR iPhone 7 7P 8 8P 3.3FT

I only have one extension aux cable out of four that works with my UGREEN adapter to use it to make phone calls (all work to play music), so although I don't have the expertise explained to me on the article I read that lead me to fix the issue, I think the extension cable also needs to be compatible (4 pin not 3). That being said, I don't know how to distinguish the difference. I've been using my Iphone 12 Pro Max to make phone calls over my vehicle speakers daily for a few weeks now. It does seem to fault out once in awhile, which required me to reset my phone with a hard power on/off.

Hey, I don't work for apple but I'd like to help you with your headset because it was driving me insane for the first two months I had my Iphone 12 as I need to be able to use it while I'm driving in my car. I don't know why apple has such a problem with this. I've since bought a strait adapter (vice the one with the extension cable) and it still works perfectly. I also don't think the headset input is the problem, I am convinced it is with some software settings in the Iphone and the cable.

I have sever hearing difficulty. So much so you can say that I’m hearing impaired. I cant use bluetooth in the car for calls because there is too much round noise and I cant hear whomever I am talking to. I cant really use bluetooth ear buds, because of the nature of the audio system in my car it becomes dangerous and difficult to switch between audio sources or bluetooth devices. It is only marginally easier to switch between devices on my iPhone, but then defeats the purpose of a hands free device. If I was able to just use my wired headphones like I have for the last decade I would have no issues at all. I guess I will have to contact the American with Disabilities Association to force Apple to accommodate those of us with hearing impairment issues.

The issue isn't clogs or dirt, the iPhone 12 doesn't have a product or software to support the calling feature - for wired headphones, that work perfectly well in my iPhone 6. If there is I'd like to know where I can that product. otherwise it is apparent that Apple has decided to force customers to use the wireless feature. I, for one find ear buds uncomfortable, and third party blue tooth earphone batteries don't seem to last that long, that's why i prefer wired.
