Wired Headphones for Calls on iPhone12

I can't figure out how to get my wired earbuds to work with phone calls and facetime on the iphone 12. I have the adapter that changes the 3.5mm to lightning and can use my earbuds for music etc. but when they don't connect with calls. Can anyone help? Thanks!

FIXED.

It's a problem with your adapter cable. I tried several, and they would all play music, they just won't work with phone calls, and I finally found a post by an electrician on some obscure website that explained that problem. It has something to do with most auxiliary cables only supporting 3 pins, vice 4, but I don't think you really care about that. The cable I am using to get my Iphone 12 Pro Max to use my headphones (or in my case my car speakers) is from Amazon: UGREEN Headphones Adapter for Apple MFi Certified iPhone Lightning to 3.5mm Jack Converter for iPhone 12, but there are several that work, that's just the first one where I found the certification difference.

I have the 4 pin adapters, they only work for music and recording videos. none of them work for making phone calls on my iPhone 12 pro max. The same wired 4-pin headphone with mic works with my iPhone 6s. Makes no sense been trying EVERYTHING and has become a PITA, I’m about to take this POS iPhone and toss it in the trash, freaking pointless piece of junk!
