Apple Watch
I have the following and this is what worked for me:
M1 MBP Base Model
iPad Pro 12.9 latest model
iPhone 11 max pro
Apple Watch series 6
I was hopeful but this doesn't seem to work on the Macbook Pro (M1). Oddly, unlocking my Mac Pro (desktop) with my watch has also stopped working.
My MacBook Pro still works fine. Just the M1 system I have issues with still. I even removed bluetooth devices and got keyboard and magic track pad connected to USB as others suggested.
How do you sign the watch out of iCloud? I’ve been looking for awhile trying to figure that out.
Well it got ride of the error message and is now enabled. However it doesn't unlock my Mac still.
I am still having this issue even with the latest software on the M1 Mac, iPhone, and Watch. Nothing helps!
Do you use an external monitor by chance?
It’s a Mac mini so i have to
M1 mac mini user , i have updated both watch, mac and phone to the latest version, watch 7.2, mac os 11.1 and iphone 14.3 it hasn't helped. spent 2 hours with support , unpaired my watch and repaired, without restoring backup. created a new mac test account as advised, still nothing, disabled, renabled handoff. deleted all auto unlock entries in keychain access, also deleted auto unlock plist files, unpaired all bluetooth devices , rebooted like a 100 times. this is driving me insane.
Apparently if you have a special character in your password to unlock your mac, this causes issues with the watch unlocking. Try changing your logon password with any of these combinations - letters (upper/lower case), numbers, space and underscore, see if it resolves it.
This was provided by an Apple support and twas the first solution he gave me and it worked! I am on OS 11.1 Watch OS 7.2
just to add some color to this, i am able to use my watch to unlock secure dialog boxes on the mac like when you click the padlock in security and privacy, i get the prompt on the watch and double click, that works. when my screen is locked, i get the message unlocking with apple watch, and then the password box appears.
I have spent a combined total of 3 hours with Apple support on this issue and everything they have asked me to try has ended in a dead end or made it worse. I have factory reset my Apple Watch , created a new account on my mac, removed my iCloud account and re-added it, disabled and re-enabled keychain access. Deleted auto unlock entries in keychain access and also from the folder. Connected my mac, phone and watch to a separate 2.4Ghz network. I have scoured the inter webs and tried every thing even though some of it seemed ridiculous. **** i even tidied up cables because apparently usb 3 and Ethernet cables interfere with the Bluetooth signal. (Dont ask) needless to say i have nothing else to try. I am at a complete dead end. And what i dont get is why does it allow me to doubleclick to approve password requests in the Operating System but can’t log me in.
Doh! Sorry, forgot you had a Mini. I have an M1 MBP. I have been having the Apple Watch unlock issue with or without the external display connected, but it's especially troublesome if the Mac won't wake up and unlock without communicating to the Watch. Both the external display and the Mac will stay asleep even if I'm tapping on the keyboard or moving the mouse.
This worked perfectly on my 2018 Mac mini , worked without fail. Ive now upgraded to the M1 and this is what happens. Listen i love my M1 Mac mini, it is awesome. But this is a feature i have come to rely on and find invaluable . It is very frustrating that i can’t get it to work
my password is all numeric, no special characters and yes the support tech had mentioned that to me as well. its the same password used on my 2018 mac mini which worked perfectly.
Have you tried reconnecting (forget network > reconnect) all your devices to your wifi?
