USB-C to Digital AV Multiport Adapter into a MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020), to a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter, going to a Thunderbolt 2 Adapter, to a Thunderbolt Monitor, the monitor does not come up.

I plug my USB-C to Digital AV Multiport Adapter into a MacBook Pro (13-inch, M1, 2020), to a Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter, going to a Thunderbolt 2 Adapter, to a Thunderbolt Monitor, the monitor does not come up.

A Thunderbolt display requires an all Thunderbolt (cables or adapters) connection to a computer's Thunderbolt port.


The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter is not Thunderbolt even though Thunderbolt 3 uses USB-C connectors. Also the USB-C port on the adapter is not a general purpose port, and is only for connecting a charger.


If you were using the adapter to try for two external displays, it's not going to work. The M1 chip supports only two displays. The laptop display is one, so there can be only one external display.
