I have a smart TV and an AppleTV. But I also have cable TV. I'd love to get some HomePods but can't figure out how to get the audio from cable TV to get to the HomePods. Is there a solution to getting the audio output of a TV into a HomePod? Smart TVs have AirPlay but only for receiving (music from your phone, etc.) Thanks very much.
the tv's that support airplay2 are only receivers not senders of audio, fear if you use your computer as middle man it could cause audio and visuals to get out of sync
my Yamaha receiver from about 5y ago packed up so looking at new receivers. If I get a receiver that has Airplay 2 and I am connecting AV from (1) AppleTV (2) cable or satellite TV decoder (3) DVD (4) probably aux inputs :: would the receiver be able to play to two linked homepods in that room but also play the same audio or potentially differential audio to other homepods elsewhere in house? Ideal for me is the kids could be watching something in playroom but I can play music on patio or at times have one music playing everywhere.
you can't, it's the appletv which send the audio to the homepod
when you are not using the appletv as your active display source it's dormant and does not communicate with the tv by any means
I was hoping some company had come up a solution—some little Airplay transmitter. What I'm trying to figure out now is if I could use an old Mac or iPad. When using cable TV, the audio out of the TV could go into the old Mac and send AirPlay to the ATV.
