4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

So in summary, all you need to do to fix the issue is place the Mac mini upside down, use wired accessories, disable Wi-Fi in your house and neighborhood, and don’t bring an iPhone or Apple Watch near it.

While my Bluetooth Matias keyboard now works ok, Bluetooth headsets (Sony XM3 and Apple AirPods) just won't work for anything but listening to music. I spend my days in long meetings in Microsoft Teams and have had to revert to a wired headset and use the microphone in the webcam. On my end I get reoccurring bursts of scrambled sound making me miss vital parts of the conversation, and on the other end they experience similar short periods of my voice breaking up. Wired headset and mic - no problem, so it is not my Internet connection or the Teams server.

Mad a few final adjustments tonight, and installed an update to Mac OS. If the issues continue tomorrow I will be in contact with Apple support.

After a few days where every BT connected item worked as it should - everything stopped earlier today. Physically rebooted MacMini M1 and Magic keyboard would not connect via BT - until I plugged in to USB. After logging in BT seemed to work again. I had Apple keyboard and magic pad 2 with Sony headphones working at the time of failure

Yes, that typically happens to me even after installing all the updates. I rarely turn my M1 mini off completely. As long as its in sleep mode all the bluetooth connections work. If I turn it off at night, in the morning I have to reconnect the bluetooth devices to re-establish connectivity. So life is fine if I don't power down the M1 mini.

The other issue that's persistent has been waking sleep and not having the LG 4K monitor connected with USB-C come to life. I have to unplug and replug the USB-C cable to wake the screen. The 2nd HDMI monitor comes to life with no problem. I finally solved the LG 4K display issue by connecting an unused Elgato Thunderbolt hub from a MacBook Pro. I connecting the powered hub into the M1 mini USB-C port, then a USB-C cable from the hub to the LG 4K. Now it wakes up just fine.

Thought I had it fixed after turning the computer upside down and moving the iPhone to the other side of the desk. Worked well for a day, then I received the 11.2.2 update and the scrambled audio and audio drops in MS Teams are back. Will contact Apple support again and see what they have to say.

So, in addition to making sure your M1 Mac Mini has the latest software, make sure you've also updated your iPhone, and Apple Watch if you have one.

For some reason, it seems everything has to be up to date to eliminate/minimize the issue. (Its been discussed earlier in this thread, but it certainly is a lot to read).

So, kind of weird, but nothing has changed - software, keyboard, mouse, trackpad, or wifi environment - but been home for 3 hours, and at least once each hour, all three (mouse, keyboard, trackpad) have disconnected and connected again. Still useable, but this is after several hours of no connects/disconnects. Anyone else experiencing this too?

My issues only pertain to mice (any brand, any wireless connection type) but it has never been cured with software updates or moving the computer around to different locations. I will say the frequency seems to have lowered in recent weeks but today all of a sudden, many dropouts on the mouse again in the same familiar pattern (drops out quickly twice in a row before stabilizing for a couple hours).

Same mysticism here as well. For weeks my Mini connected to the LG 4K USB-C monitor through the Elgato Thunderbird hub has awoke from sleep every time. Then yesterday, nothing upon waking the Mini from sleep. I have to disconnect the USB-C cable to the LG display a few times before the screen wakes up. Elgato hub or no hub, same issue. The LG doesn't wake from sleep but the HDMI to the Dell monitor always works.

I am having the same BT issue with my M1 Mini where my apple track pad 2 lost bluetooth connectivity after about a week of use. Had to reboot the Mini to regain connectivity.

I also had issues with the M1 Mini rebooting when it goes to sleep. I have external HDD connected via USB-A and USB-C. To workaround this problem, I had to disable the "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" + "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when display is off." Basically, never put the hard drives to sleep.

Apple needs to fix these problems ASAP.

This issue is pretty frustrating. I upgraded from a 2012 MBP to an M1 MacMini... my Magic Mouse 2 is a little over 1 year old and was working perfectly with my old MacBook. However, when connected to the new MacMini, the mouse intermittently disconnects for literally no rhyme or reason.

Apple support is really no help at all. First I was directed to replace the mouse, so I spent another $80 on another Apple product and the problem persisted. Then I was directed to try isolating the MacMini from RF interference, so I disabled WiFi in my house, turned off all PCs, turned off all cell phones, turned off any other device that had bluetooth or WiFi functionality... and guess what? The Magic Mouse disconnected after about 10 minutes of use.

Then I was instructed to reinstall the OS on my MacMini and that did nothing but waste time.

Here's the thing: the MacMini works fine with my Apple bluetooth keyboard and AirPods. The MacMini works fine with 3rd party bluetooth devices like headsets, keyboards, and mouses. The problem is the MacMini's incompatibility with the Apple Magic Mouse.

Apple support mentioned that they're aware of the issue and how "it should be addressed in future software updates," but we're on Big Sur 11.2.2 and the problem is persistent.

Someone here suggested getting an Asus USB bluetooth dongle which has worked for me. Not really acceptable but it fixes all the issues I have had apart from a very occasional mouse disconnect when using Final Cut Pro X. I've done all the various software updates for the Macs , iPhones and iPads and iPhones in the house but the built in bluetooth is hopeless. I know this is an issue with interference but thats hardly good enough. In Steve Jobs day someone would have been ritually disembowelled for an issue like this :0)

I had frequent kernel panics (probably for overflow) . I have noticed that often they happen while moving the Magic Mouse 1 or when I use it as a remote control, also often disconnecting due to interferences) with low batteries (16%). I *suppose* that Mac mini M1 Bluetooth increases the power trying to reach it. Changing rechargeable batteries fixed my issue!

Is it just me that all recent Apple products got really bad bluetooth connectivity? My 11 Pro Max cannot maintain a stable connection with my WF-1000XM3, with the audio dropping or stuttering all the time. From what I heard from other is that only iPhone 11 series had this issue.

Then so I changed to the AirPods Pro. Connectivity did improved but I must say the bluetooth audio is still dropping or stuttering at times but just lesser. Still disappointing...

Upgraded to 12 Pro Max. The same issue is still happening with my AirPods Pro...

Apple just doesn't seem to be getting bluetooth right. It is not all surprising to see their own SoC failing at bluetooth connectivity once again in the M1 computers. Maybe all the problems are related...
