4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

I may have "fixed" the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. System Preferences/Bluetooth/Advanced...uncheck "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". The issue was happening all morning (and since I received the M1 Mac Mini) and has stopped since I unchecked the box. I am using a USB Keyboard, so that is how I will wake from sleep. So far, so good though.

I have the same trouble with a 16Gb/256 G M1 Mac mini. 3 devices, all wireless: Magic Trackpad (1st version), Magic Mouse (1st version), the small matching keyboard (s number pad). Intermittent connect disconnect on keyboard, mouse. Haven't noted it on trackpad, but I don't use that as much. Tried another magic mouse (with removable AA batteries), same issue with that mouse.

Apparent to me that if Apple is monitoring these threads, they are not responding.

That's enough for me to return the M1, as it is not usable for productive work with the keyboard/mouse issues. Hard to believe in this day and age that Bluetooth can't be implemented without these sort of issues.

Anyone know how long I have to return the unit. (Otherwise, this sucker is FAST - Final Cut Pro with 3 4K 60Hz streams works flawlessly).

I'm a Mac mini owner (8GB/500GB) this is a quick update on mine:

A few days after I bought mine, it started really acting up, like many of the other posters' Macs. I tried everything, from turning off Bluetooth to disabling certain apps that run in the background. Nothing made a lasting difference.

All my apps were affected, whether from Apple, Adobe or Microsoft. I'd constantly get the Spinning Beach Ball of Death and often have to hard restart the machine.

It was unbearable for about a week—I almost returned the unit—but eventually, everything started to calm down and run pretty smoothly: apps, bluetooth connections—the lot.

I use my machine for work, running it for about 15 hours per day since I got it. I'm a very heavy Adobe CS user (graphics and video) as well as Office and several background apps like Magnet, Fantastical and so on. It's been excellent for the past four days or so.

It's almost as if my Mac was running a marathon and hit that 'runner's wall' that it just had to run through, and now it's incredibly stable.

Has anyone else had that happen with their M1 Mac?

I have this issue with two MacBook pros, one MacBook Air & a MacBook mini all with Apple M1 silicon. So, this seems like a hardware design/software issue. Apple support has been mostly useless so far. I referred them to this thread and they were just brushing it away saying they don’t hear much about this issue! Perhaps others from the forum should lodge a case with Apple.

I have this issue, mouse dropping out, twice in quick succession, then reconnecting. Usually. Then sometimes it bluetooth drops completely and I loose the keyboard as well.

I had a chap from Apple support reach out so I could send logs when it happened, which I did. So I would say I've got this going on.

Anyway, just say, I've upgraded to Big Sur 11.1 .. and.. the issue remains. So no fix in there.

Sorry to report that.

Bloody frustrating issue it is! Otherwise, loving the M1 Mac mini still.

I agree that replacement is a good first step, but I have NO assurance that that will solve the problem.

They are sending me a new unit, then I send the original unit back, but like you said, if this were my only computer, I wouldn't be able to do anything until the new unit arrived.

Luckily, I do have my PC handy, so I can get my work done until the new unit arrives.

I do agree, though, that they should let you use the original unit until the new unit arrives.

FIX: I ran into the same problems of both trackpad and keyboard disconnecting on my new M1 Mac mini.

I am now running 11.0 - this update either fix3d the problem, or ***the following did***: I found a reference to resetting bluetooth using a variation of the old Option key trick. Hold SHIFT OPTION and click on the Bluetooth Menu icon. Choose Factory reset all devices. Wait about 10 seconds and then plug a lightning cable into first the keyboard - what for the repaired prompt - and then the same on the trackpad. Three days now, no problem.

Apple Support has contacted me several times this week since I initially reported this issue. The connection has remained stable for the most part, but actually just dropped out now as I was typing this. Apple Support had me send a System Profile report to them and was also noting any other bluetooth devices I had in the vicinity (a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard and precision mouse, a Google mini hub, and a Phillips hue lightbulb). They were also interested in which WiFi channel the mini was connected to which is on my 5 GHz band (you can find out by option clicking on the WiFi icon in the menu bar). They plan to contact me again Friday to see if the issue still persists and if they can capture information as it is happening.

If anyone is able to reproduce the issue consistently, I'd recommend contacting Apple Support directly as that information might be able to help them resolve the issue quicker.

You know, it seems there are a lot of work arounds, but in the end, the product is NOT behaving as it should. You can't use the HDMI port if you have pink pixels? You can't use wifi and/or bluetooth if you have keyboard/mouse connections issues? You want to exchange the produce- we will deactivate it first, then not tell you when your replacement is coming. The product is NOT performing as advertised. Apple either needs to FIX those problems so you don't need workarounds, or declare the M1 products lemons and give everyone their money back. To bad there is no lemon laws for computers. (I really have nothing against Apple; I've been with them ever since my original Apple II back in 1979. My family all have iphones (X and above), my wife an iMac, my son a MacPro, the other son a Macbook Pro. Just seems to me that these M1 products, as fast as they are, were released prematurely/before all the bugs were worked out).
