4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

I may have "fixed" the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. System Preferences/Bluetooth/Advanced...uncheck "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". The issue was happening all morning (and since I received the M1 Mac Mini) and has stopped since I unchecked the box. I am using a USB Keyboard, so that is how I will wake from sleep. So far, so good though.

Ok seriously guys I think I figured it out!

I was trying to solve this jaggy/jerky mouse (Logitec M590 wireless using bluetooth) for ages on my 2021 Macbook Air M1 (base model).

What I did was I disabled the Giant "Shake to Find" Cursor in MacOS because it was bothering me, and INSTANTLY I get SMOOTH MOUSE!

Just also of note, I did notice a difference also turning off my Apple Trackpad that usually would sit nearby the mouse. I also did try the sound output to not the macbook air M1 speakers (I sent it to Homepod Mini nearby). I did also (just to note) install the logitec drivers, but didnt start noticing any difference till I got rid of shake to find and turn off external trackpad power.

I think it is a combination of issues, that's why Apple is having issues fixing this, and this is totally bs that Apple didn't catch this issue during basic testing of the laptops before launching to public, Steve would be super super not cool with what's happening, a mouse is the MAIN input into these. A laggy mouse makes me feel like I'm using a windows laptop from 1996. I suspect this is a hardware issue (bluetooth motherboard unit shielding/bandwidth/interference issue) AND a software issue.

I had originally thought there was relationship between the USB-C display and the Mac Mini. This does not appear to be the case.

After the last 30 hours of working with the device. The only time I have noticed the Magic Mouse 2 disconnecting/reconnecting is when I am in Safari or Chrome. It seems to occur right when I click to open a webpage or opening a new YouTube TV channel. It does not happen all the time and may be coincidental. I connected the Mini directly to Ethernet and shut off WiFi like someone else had suggested and I have not had any dropouts. I cannot guarantee this is the solution, but I am trying to narrow it down so Apple can fix it because otherwise the Mac Mini M1 is very good.

I would say, its definitely pointed to Wifi vs. Bluetooth. I can reproduce that simple. I normally use "unlock by apple watch" for my mac. If i switch off Wifi, whatever i do, no problem with my mouse. Switching on Wifi, to unlock with the apple watch (Wifi is needed for this function) the mouse movements starts to leak.

The same i can see, if i open the Airport Utility and try to configure a airport express, which is binded to the network by Wifi (configured as wifi extender) - got a short flicker/mouse movement leak.

I've found a 3/3 attempt reproduction on this (paging Apple Bluetooth team ;) )

Attempting to AirDrop some photos from my iPhone 12 Pro to the Mac mini results in this drop out immediately. Even my Magic Keyboard which is now plugged in. Both devices on the same desk, both connected to the same WiFi network.

I don't even need to actually initiate the transfer, just bring up the main AirDrop UI on the iPhone and once my Mac mini appears on the view - the mouse (and keyboard) drop from the Mac mini.

Just a quick update to everyone:

Today I've started experiencing the issue when waking up the iPhone completely ruins the Bluetooth connection of the Mac Mini M1. Not sure why.

Disabling WiFi, Bluetooth AND Handoff on my iPhone and Mac Mini (apart from Bluetooth, obviously) didn't make a difference.

Speaking to a senior advisor from Apple support they've (FINALLY!) acknowledged that this issue is known to them. The advisor was very reluctant to admit it though. Not sure what they have to hide.

Any way, I've agreed to send them log files to help them sort these issues.

It seems to be a software related issue. The reason is:

a. People with replacement units still had this issue

b. It happens on multiple bluetooth devices

c. It happens on multiple Macs - all on Big Sur
