4th Gen 2020 M1 Mac mini bluetooth issues with Magic Mouse2

Just got the brand new Mac mini (M1, 2020 8gb and 256gb - macOS big sur 11.0.1). The bluetooth connection between my Magic Mouse 2 and the mini drops during use (2-3 times an hour). The drop is very odd too - it always drops twice in quick fashion (it drops, I wiggle the mouse and click, it reconnects then immediately drops where I wiggle/click again and it connects for a longer period of time).

I worked with apple support who had me remove the plist files, but after rebooting I ran into the same issues. Any advice?

I have the mini connected via usb c cable to my acer 27" monitor. I use the same mouse, keyboard, monitor, and cable to connect to my 2018 MacBookpro 13 (Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7) and have never had issues. I even plugged in the MacBookpro after getting my mini to see if it was happening there again - nope. It's only the mini.

I may have "fixed" the issue with the Magic Mouse disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly. System Preferences/Bluetooth/Advanced...uncheck "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer". The issue was happening all morning (and since I received the M1 Mac Mini) and has stopped since I unchecked the box. I am using a USB Keyboard, so that is how I will wake from sleep. So far, so good though.

Logic_psg,

Good point. I also have done the same (always updating iOS and MacOs to the latest developer betas), and noted it here on the forum. I have not experienced any BT disconnects either. But what I think is happening in this forum is that there is no singular document/reference which compiles the history and more current developments in this BT saga. Community members do not have the time to read through all the pages, and replicate what is actually working.

So, your news is promising. Since Apple should be releasing the final 11.2 possibly by the end of the week, I think it is safe for most community members to download the Apple Public Beta profiles for iOS and MacOS and download the latest respective RCs. Perhaps the updates have fixed most people's problems. Although mmulet3 has stated his has not worked. However mmulet3 has not mentioned if he has the latest iOS RC as well.

So I have been having this issue on my m1 MacBook Air using Magic Mouse v2 and magic keyboard v2. Was driving me crazy.

I recently needed to go back and forth to a windows laptop so I remembered some software I had bought a few years ago called Synergy. It's a server/client mouse and keyboard sharing app. Theres a lot of them out there but this one works really well. Anyway...since I started using that I have had 0 disconnects. So I'm thinking because the server is monitoring for the mouse and keyboard all the time it's preventing whatever sleep/energy saving action is disconnecting our devices.

So you could run it and not even set up a client, just run the server and maybe that would prevent the disconnects. I realize it's not a solution, but if it's stops the frustration and productivity stalling.

Apple engineering just emailed me this morning to ask for additional feedback regarding the BT connection issue. I am guessing that even after 11.2 RC3, the engineers either are still receiving BT bug feedback, or want to be confident that 11.2 RC3 and iOS 14.4 have fixed the issues. I did report some Apple Community members encountering mouse & keyboard lag even after updating to 11.2 RC3, iOS 14.4, and WatchOS.

Hi All, I had also encountered this issue and turned devices off and back on had worked. Today, with 11.2, they wouldn't work. I did about 5 restarts. Then based on feedback in this forum, removed my iPhone from the scene. Finally, I connected the keyboard via Lightning/USB iPhone cable and that immediately connected it. I did that with the mouse, same result. A big pain but that was a quick workaround. One more backstory, I'm trying to replace a 2014 iMac with the M1 and Dell 42" USB-C monitor. I had forgotten the luxury of the built in screen and not worrying about communication gaps. Since I still have the iMac, I had disconnected from new Mac mini to use the iMac for something. I will always fully shut down each machine, so the keyboard / mouse, in theory, shouldn't be looking for them. But this lighting connection was the only workaround I found.

I'm experiencing the exact same thing across three different mice. Two of them are Apple Magic Mouse 2 and one uses a wireless USB receiver. When the connection drops (at least 5 times in a work day), it disconnects and reconnects twice before stabilizing.

Curiously, I also have a Magic Keyboard and a Magic Trackpad connected that have NEVER dropped out once. That fact combined with me trying bluetooth mice and USB mice leads me to believe that this somehow may be a software issue and not a hardware issue. Otherwise my keyboard and trackpad should be exhibiting similar behavior.

I had frequent kernel panics (probably for overflow) . I have noticed that often they happen while moving the Magic Mouse 1 or when I use it as a remote control, also often disconnecting due to interferences) with low batteries (16%). I *suppose* that Mac mini M1 Bluetooth increases the power trying to reach it. Changing rechargeable batteries fixed my issue!

Since (I believe) Big Sur 11.2.2 my bluetooth connection quality improved to the extent that I stopped using my Asus dongle. Unfortunately since about a week the connection quality of my Apple Magic Mouse (1st ed) dropped again to a level that I deided to revert back to the Asus dongle.

I did notice that my problems returned at the same time Apple pushed a new version (2143) of Xprotect on April 1st (no joke). Unlikely the two events are linked but I thought it wise still to mention.

I’ve now reverted back to my Intel based Mac Mini running Big Sur 11.1 using same Apple wireless mouse and keyboard and have experienced zero dropouts, my M1 Mac mini will remain in box until Apple address the issue with a fix or repair/replacement program.

just to go through everything, I have performed a clean install of BigSur, Reset Bluetooth Module, deleted all Bluetooth devices and connected again (but only mouse and Keyboard - both space grey magic keyboard and mouse so Apple Branded), disabled wifi and worked from Ethernet and even disabled Bluetooth on my iPhone none of these actions worked.

I would add I only ever saw an issue with the mouse disconnecting, I never experienced an issue with the Keyboard, I did also experience an issue with the Pink dots on the screen connected to the HDMI port and also witnessed a static signal (like an untuned analogue TV ) on this monitor sometimes after resuming from sleep this was fixed by disconnecting HDMI and reconnecting but in fairness I’ve seen this on the Intel based Mac Mini.

so for now the M1 Mac Mini is in retirement until we see some progression, but to be honest I really missed the 3rd screen on my work from home intel Mac mini setup.
