Why is bosUpdateProxy uploading tons of data?

On my 2020 MBP, bosUpdateProxy sent almost half a gigabyte of data (to where?) this morning. I would understand if it were downloading for updates (although even then it would be nice to control or delay that; this morning it used so much bandwidth it messed up my video call). But I do not understand why it is uploading a half gigabyte of data or what data that would be and where it is sending it?? I already disabled sending diagnostic data to Apple so that shouldn't be the issue.

This seems like a potential privacy/security issue in addition to a bandwidth-hogging annoyance.
