Does Rosetta 2 support 32-bit Intel apps?
Will Rosetta 2 allow Apple silicon computers to run 32-bit applications that require an Intel processor?
No. 32-bit apps are completely dead.

Does this imply that current 64-bit Intel-only software will also someday be completely dead under M1-based hardware? I would have to assume that the answer is ‘yes.’
So how long do you think before this happens, based on Apple precedents?

I'd say that will take quite a while to happen, though. Apple is still making and selling Intel based Macs and there is a large installed base of Intel based Macs out there.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about it. At least now for 5 or 6 years.
