So since Apple has replaced iTunes with Apple Music, if one doesn't want to pay the monthly subscription fee, any music that was previously loaded to iTunes from CDs or music purchased from the Apple Store from iTunes is now lost? And don't tell me that it isn't lost because I have lost a large library of music that I uploaded from CDs as well as music I purchased from the Apple Store now that I switched from a PC to a Mac.
You don’t need to have an Apple Music subscription. Music app works in the same way as iTunes. Something else has gone wrong.

A good portion of the music, purchased and uploaded, that was on my iPhone disappeared once the phone synced with the Mac Book. How do I get all that back?
As I noted in an earlier post you can't. Apple took down that post because I also noted my empathy for your situation as Music is "the most amazing upgrade in the history of upgrades." [can an algorithm detect sarcasm?]

Thank you sir. Done got it and it works fine. Unfortunately, Big Sur won't let me make iTunes the default audio file opener, so stuck with Musuck for that.
Of course Big Sur won't let you make an application that doesn't exist on the platform the default audio file opener.
Unfortunately the keyboard play and track change keys links to it too. Bummer, but glad I got iTunes back. Music was absolutely worthless for searching through 90 days of audio files.
Music is almost identical to the music parts of iTunes. All they did was remove the video and iOS management features to separate applications. Now, I'm quite willing to entertain the notion that neither iTunes nor Music are especially good applications.
Unfortunately apple is not going to support this. I did find a few YouTube videos exposing his you can do it but alas they don’t work. iTunes just keeps crashing on my M1 Mac mini. Guess we just have to wait.
I hate the Music and TV apps. They are slow and have lost all artwork and some descriptions to my library. It’s so stupid that apple had done this. As a huge apple supporter since the Early 80’s I am extremely disappointed.

It's not on Apple support page. You will have to Google search for it. There are Youtube videos explaining how to do it. I did it and it doesn't run. Others may have better luck. I'm on an M1 MacMini.
I am not answering the same question over and over again. Yes you can. I am running iTunes on both Catalina and Big Sur.
Look at the thread or Google search it. I am not posting again and getting my posts removed when I give specific instructions.
I am now unfollowing this thread.
What if it says You do not have permission to open, and it doesn't give you the option to open anyway? If it helps, had iTunes working on Catalina, but now that I upgraded to Big Sur, there's just a question mark where iTunes used to be

I've downloaded Retroactive and have been following the instructions. I've reached an impasse at Full Disc Access. I follow the directions to open my System preferences and there I'm directed to "Drag Me Into The List" but that's where everything stops. Theres nothing I can drag into any list and nothing on the screen becomes movable.
Adding iTunes to my new computer seems fruitless if I'm unable to sync my iPods with my music library.
Anyone have experience with this impasse or a bright idea?
I want to continue using iTunes on the M1 iMac. Please stop these nonsense replacements with Music and TV. These new software have made a complete bordello of my accumulated songs and movies.
Shame on you Apple.
I've seen references (Airsculpture) to installing iTunes using Retroactive. Could some explain what this means and how to do this? I'm trying to gain control of the music I own and the Music app won't let me.
I can drag & drop from Music to the desktop in Monterey, but I believe recent versions of iTunes and Music block drag & drop to removable drives. A workaround is to right-click and show in Finder, then copy the files from there.

If you are on Catalina or Big Sur, and you don't want to use the awful Music app, you can use Retroactive to install up to iTunes 12.9 on your Mac.
The child has blocked the iPad. To unblock it you need to download itunes. itunes Not supported after upgrading to big sur . How to unlock it now?
