iTunes is not supported on Big Sur. You should look elsewhere in the thread for advice on the possible workaround, or learn to use the replacement apps that are provided. See What happened to iTunes? - Apple Support, the advice there applies equally to Big Sur as it does to Catalina.

So since Apple has replaced iTunes with Apple Music, if one doesn't want to pay the monthly subscription fee, any music that was previously loaded to iTunes from CDs or music purchased from the Apple Store from iTunes is now lost? And don't tell me that it isn't lost because I have lost a large library of music that I uploaded from CDs as well as music I purchased from the Apple Store now that I switched from a PC to a Mac. A good portion of the music, purchased and uploaded, that was on my iPhone disappeared once the phone synced with the Mac Book. How do I get all that back?
What if it says You do not have permission to open, and it doesn't give you the option to open anyway? If it helps, had iTunes working on Catalina, but now that I upgraded to Big Sur, there's just a question mark where iTunes used to be

similar problem- iPad is not showing in finder ?
See About the 'Trust This Computer' alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support and the section Change your settings for trusted computers. Reset your trust settings then with your device unlocked reconnect to your computer and trust the computer when prompted.

I've downloaded Retroactive and have been following the instructions. I've reached an impasse at Full Disc Access. I follow the directions to open my System preferences and there I'm directed to "Drag Me Into The List" but that's where everything stops. Theres nothing I can drag into any list and nothing on the screen becomes movable.
Adding iTunes to my new computer seems fruitless if I'm unable to sync my iPods with my music library.
Anyone have experience with this impasse or a bright idea?
My mac's system is macOS Big Sur Version 11.4
but when I want to install iTunes it's stopping by showing this message: this update requires macOS version 10.13.99 or earlier.

I want to continue using iTunes on the M1 iMac. Please stop these nonsense replacements with Music and TV. These new software have made a complete bordello of my accumulated songs and movies.
Shame on you Apple.

I have rented a movie on my iPhone and want to watch it on my MacBook Pro. How do I do that?
Rent movies from the Apple TV app - Apple Support — this also covers playing a previously-movie from your library.
I've seen references (Airsculpture) to installing iTunes using Retroactive. Could some explain what this means and how to do this? I'm trying to gain control of the music I own and the Music app won't let me.
I can drag & drop from Music to the desktop in Monterey, but I believe recent versions of iTunes and Music block drag & drop to removable drives. A workaround is to right-click and show in Finder, then copy the files from there.

Hi,
You can’t. iTunes has been replaced with the music app. What happened to iTunes? – Apple Support
Jim
If you are on Catalina or Big Sur, and you don't want to use the awful Music app, you can use Retroactive to install up to iTunes 12.9 on your Mac.
Thanks for that info. Trying to get my ok’d Christmas music collection on my new desktop Mac.
where can I find retroactive app? to get my old music?
thanks
I used it to download iTunes but its not working. it keeps saying iTunes is quit unexpectedly.
Thanks Michael,
can you point me to a Apple page that explains that process please? My search did not give me any applicable results.
