Just to confirm. Those are real fake. Pretty great fake on hardware and software levels.

use 3utools to see the authenticity of the device. I checked two pairs: one is from official reseller and one I bought as “pre used”. The app confirms authenticity of first pair and says “it’s a great copy” for the second one.

i would say that it seems that this new fake pair is assembled from all original parts except chipset. Everything is just working great. The only way now to see the difference is the fact that original will show you case version and 3 serial numbers (case and two pods) while you click on this options in menu.

so...buy only at official stores

I can confirm what others on this thread have stated. I also purchased what I believed to be “real” airpods on version 0A2097. They appeared to be real as they came in what looked to be complete official packaging. After a few hours of investigating it seems that a new version of fake AirPods have hit the market in the last few months that are very hard to differentiate between real air pod pros. Here are some key other ways to determine if your Air Pod Pros are fake:

  1. Each Air Pod Pro and case should have its own individual Serial Number for a total of 3 different numbers. When you go to settings > Bluetooth > AirPod Pros you should be able to tap on the SN and it should cycle through all of these numbers. (Also, in my specific instance the SN on the AirPods and case all matched each other but the settings showed a completely different SN. When I put these SNs into Apple’s website one of the SNs came back as be damaged or stolen while the other SN came back as perfectly fine.)
  2. This new generation of fakes have ear pieces that are very difficult to remove and replace while authentic AirPod Pros are typically easy to remove.
  3. Noice cancellation will work very well in these headphones, but transparency mode does not work. It will show on your iPhone’s UI that you are in transparency mode, but there will be no observable difference when listening.
  4. Lastly, 0A2097 is not an official Air Pod Pro firmware and therefore you will never be able to update the software.

I hope anyone who is reading this is able to get their money back. Unfortunately, I was unable to :(

Mate, it’s fake. Very very good fake.

as I said earlier, now the SN doesn’t guarantee anything.

Follow simple steps to see if you have bought fake.

1) use 3utools. Open “accessories check” utility. It will show you results in a second.

2) no 3utools? Connect airpods. Open Bluetooth settings of your airpods. Go to the lines about the airpods. Tap SN. It must change from case to L and R airpods after each tap. Tap on firmware version. It must change to case firmware. There is no exclusion.

each earbud must have unique SN printed on them. If they are the same - fake.

3) google search for firmware versions numbers to see that yours never exist

if you bought at official store - seems that it’s a big gap in supplier chain. And yes, I reported the issue to Apple when found out this. I don’t think they’ll do anything.

try to make return and refund. Otherwise report “fraud” to authorities.
