Red exclamation point on text message

I am not able to send a text via iPad to a certain number that I have been able to send a text to , on my iPad, in the past. These are the instructions I saw on Apple Support.

If you try to send a message and you see  with an alert stating Not Delivered, follow these steps:

  1. Check your network connection.
  2. Tap , then tap Try Again.
  3. If you still can’t send the message, tap , then tap Send as Text Message. Messaging rates may apply. Contact your carrier for more information.

the problem with this solution is that when I tap the red explanation mark, it only gives me the option to “try again” not “send as text message”. How can I fix that?

Hello bdo2733,

After reviewing your post, it seems like there is trouble sending text messages on your iPad and you are not able to try and send it as a SMS message.

Are you able to send SMS messages to other contacts?

Is the iPad connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data?

"To send an SMS message, you need cellular network connection."

If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Please don't hesitate to let us know if the steps resolved your issue or if you need additional assistance.
