XQuartz on m1?
Is XQuartz working on the new M1 macs?
Or is there another X11 solution available?
I don't have many "critical" apps but X11, shell, & ssh are critical for me.

I have Xquartz 2.7.11 running on 11.2 Build 20D53 on an M1 processor.
I simply downloaded the .dmg, allowed the permissions, logged out, logged in, and ssh -X to my linux host worked like a champ.
I haven't done in depth testing, but I'm able to run graphical emacs (version 28) from a linux (Ubuntu 20) machine on my M1 mac.
YMMV
You will have to ask MacPorts about their software.
Can I ask where to find the .zprofile file? I cannot find one, and my .zshrc does not have the export DISPLAY =:0 line.
Ssh and emacs are over 99% of my concerns. I'm declaring this solved.
That'll be the x86 version of Xquartz running in emulation mode, I presume?
Good post. Lady X ain't dead after all.
Very useful post, thanks it seems to me that Macports via Rosetta-2 is a viable workaround for the short term. In the long term a Macports / Homebrew M1 native X11 rebuild is more desirable. FFIW achieving tool chains that could handle both native build for Intel, Rosetta-1 build for Power PC and trying to maintain production development all on the same physical machine was challenging. Personally I’d want victim machines of both Intel and M1 to attempt it or suitable virtual environments. It’s also worth noting ( again personal POV and YMMV) that running both Homebrew and Macports in Tandem can be painful as well.
