My phone storage is not updating after deleting many apps and hundreds of photos. Why do won’t it refresh and free up space?

I have also had this issue. I would recommend giving it some time. This issue especially gets worse when there is less than a few GBs of storage left on the iPhone. I have tried opening and closing the app, going back and forth in the Settings app pages, and at some point the numbers have refreshed. The key is just put the phone down for a sec and let it search for storage differences.

Tip: with photos, you need to delete them from recently deleted as well otherwise photos's storage number won't change.

Tip #2: on iOS 14, it is common to 'remove from Home Screen' instead of 'delete app'. Just want to make sure you are on the right path... let me know if this helps.

When you delete photos, they don't immediately delete. They go to a folder called Recently Deleted where they hang out for 30 days to give you the opportunity to restore them if you want. Go to that folder and choose delete all.

Then do a Forced Restart on your phone. You should see space open up when you sign back in.

If you have iPhone 11 as your signature suggests:

  • Press and quickly release volume up button
  • Then press and quickly release volume down button
  • Then press and keep holding the side power button (keep holding past the swipe to power off) until you see the Apple Logo, then let go
