touch id for appstore not working

Hi,

I've just bought an M1 macbook air and I've been setting it up. I've been trying to use touch ID as a way to verify and get apps from the appstore however I keep getting the error message: "There was a problem setting up biometric authentication on this device. Please try again later." Yet, for other purposes, such as moving items to the bin and authorising to change system preferences, touch ID works fine. I've tried turning touch ID off for appstore, restarting the device and trying again but it still doesn't work. Is there any way to fix this?
