TouchID doesn't work for Fast User switchiing in Ventura

Since upgrading to MacOS Ventura, TouchID doesn't work for Fast User Switching. It's ok for other things, but the option is not presented when switching between users like it did with Big Sur and Monterey.

It is suggested to start the below starting in the order that are presented and test after each step.

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drives from loading

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

5 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

6 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

7 - Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Using Touch ID in Ventura as per the link below

Use Touch ID on Mac

Except of above link

Use Touch ID to unlock your Mac, log in, or switch users

To use Touch ID for these tasks, you must have logged in to your Mac already by entering your password.

  • Unlock your Mac and some password-protected items: When you wake your Mac from sleep, or open a password-protected item, just place your finger on Touch ID when asked.
  • Log in from the login window: Click your name in the login window, then place your finger on Touch ID.
  • Only user accounts that have passwords can be unlocked with Touch ID. Sharing-only users and guest users cannot use Touch ID.
  • Switch users: Click the fast user switching menu  in the menu bar, choose a different user, then place your finger on Touch ID.
  • To use Touch ID to switch to another user, you need to have set up fast user switching, and the user you switch to must have logged in to the Mac already by entering a password.

TouchID is already enabled and works fine for all other actions - even logging into this discussion (and Apple Pay, amongst others). Fast User Switching has always been enabled on this MacBook Pro and worked fine for Fast User Switching when on Monterey and Big Sur.

I have tried disabling and re-enabling both features (TouchID and Fast User Switching) but the problem remains.

As the User ( you ) have assigned a " Best Answer " to another reply, this basically closes this question.

So an additional suggestions would become moot.

On the off chances, is this machine ruining the latest Version of Ventura version 13.1 ?

OK Folks, so I followed these instructions (boot up in Safe Mode) and now Touch ID is working ...most of the time. But my understanding is "A password is always required to log in. Your TouchID credentials are encrypted and securely stored. Typing the correct password is how you prove your identity to unlock them. After the first log in, TouchID will work until you log out or reboot." However after a while I need to use the password, even though I have not logged out, when touch ID/ Apple Watch log-in doesn't work.

Is there a setting for this or is this another part of the issue?
