Many Applications crash since upgrading from MacOS Sierra to MacOS High Sierra

Many applications crash since I upgraded to MacOS High Sierra even if they were recently updated in the Appstore. The following information appears in the report to be sent to Apple:

Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (Code Signature Invalid)

Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000

Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

Is there some certificate that got deleted when I upgraded to High Sierra that so many of my applications are now failing to run?

MacBook Pro 17″, macOS 10.13
