Mac suddenly gets stuck in loop

My Mac occasionally gets stuck in an audio loop and repeats the same sound over and over constantly. - bit like a stuck CD. This happens when I am listening to music either on iTunes or remote Mac CD drive player. The only way to stop it is to restart the Mac - ejecting the CD or stopping iTunes does nothing. Any clues. it only happens every now and again

Please try restarting in Safe Mode per the directions in Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac
