Screencastify

Got a new MacBook, tried to download Screencastify (Chrome extension) and get an "error, download interrupted" message. I see on the Screencastify site that many others are experiencing this same difficulty. Any help here? (I really need Screencastify to work, like yesterday.)

The issue isn't about being able to run the extension. It literally says "download failed" before it possibly could have had time to download anything. (Like instantaneously.) I checked. I can run other extensions. On the Chrome Screencastify support site. Many other with the new mac are reporting the same issue. One individual posted this information, but I'm such a new mac user that it is out of my league.

I am having the same issue as well. I was able to download the Extension on another laptop running Ubuntu and manually install it to my Mac. Haven't done much testing with it yet, but it seems to be working so far. I've shared this extension with installation instructions on my Drive here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1W22HgsW0tzhyIDjJhcCJ4D-pKhwLsvvr?usp=sharing Hopefully that can help others experiencing this issue until Screencastify can get things resolved.

Ikrippner,

Thank you for those details. If you are able to download and run other extensions then the issue may be with this specific extension.

Were you able to reach out to the developers? If not, you can reach out to them here: Terms Of Use

They have an email address posted at the bottom.

If you are still experiencing issues, we would recommend reaching out to Google Chrome support.

Hello Ikrippner,

It sounds like you are unable to use a Chrome Extension on your Mac. We understand how inconvenient this is and we are here to help.

Let's review all of the steps outlined here: If an app freezes or quits unexpectedly on Mac

If the issue persists can you provide a few more details? Are you able to run other extensions? Do you know if there is an updated version available? Also, have you reached out to the developers?

Cheers!

All right. Here is the answer from Screencastify support:

Thank you for reaching out and I'm happy to help! We have been made aware that there are some issues with the extension downloads on new Macbook Airs and are looking into ways to fix this issue.

In the meantime, following these steps should enable you to download the extension:

1. Uninstall Google Chrome optimized for the M1 chip

2. Install Google Chrome for intel chips

3. Install the Record extension

4. Uninstall Google Chrome

5. Install Google Chrome optimized for M1 chip

When I installed the Chrome version for intel chips, it already remembered I had an account and the extension icon was there. As I can't even figure out how to uninstall this version, and it seems to be working fine, I'm leaving well enough alone...
