iMovie not appearing on desktop

When I launch iMovie the app opens and I get the menu up top but nothing on the screen. I recently upgraded the hard drive to ssd and upgraded the memory. Any suggestions. I've tried all the updates available but it won't update and the app store will only upgrade if I go to Catalina. I have a newer version on my iMac but really like this version which is iMovie 9.0.8

iMovie '11 (with the apostrophe) is iMovie 9. After iMovie 9.0.9, the iMovie version was upgraded to iMovie 10. The current version is iMovie 10.2.1 that requires Mac OS 10.15.6 or later to run. There is no iMovie 11 (without the apostrophe).

iMovie 9 started to lose function with El Capitan and got worse and worse with each OS upgrade, until by Mojave it won't even open. iMovie 9 has been discontinued and Apple no longer sells it.
