buying a locked ipad off someone and then can't get ahold of them for help

My question is so is there truly no way to get any help with an used ipad that I bought of offer up? They already had it on and showed me it worked so I was satisfied with that but then I was too worried with making them write me out a receipt of purchase that I completely forgot to ask or check if it was locked because I assumed it wasn't because it wasn't locked when I walked up to meet them. Now I've been strictly android my whole life but my girls are into apple and I got a dji drone and they work good with ipads so I purchased a used one to use as a monitor and I can't even do that! Please tell me their is some way to salvage this wreck of a transaction transaction! I mean I have the receipt from the person I bought it from as well as I have a copy of the actual ad of the unit I purchased. Is there any hope?

If you are talking about "activation lock", neither we (just users like you) nor Apple can help you, sorry, unless you are the original owner and you still have the proof of purchase (receipt/invoice reporting your device’s IMEI or Serial Number).

Shouldn’t be this case, activation lock (an anti-theft measure) can be removed only by the previous owner, with the credentials that were used to activate that iPhone/iPad. Without those credentials, that device is useless to you.

Here are the Apple support pages that outline the Activation Lock - and the only mechanisms by which it can be turned off:

As you will discover, unless you are the owner of the AppleID that was last used to activate the device, or unless you can secure the cooperation of the previous owner, you’ll not be able to defeat or bypass the Activation Lock. Without documentary evidence that you are the original owner (such as sales receipt showing the serial number), Apple won’t assist - and nobody here will be able to help you.
