TRIM or not in an external LaCie Thunderbolt SSD?

I recently purchased an external LaCie Rugged Thunderbolt 1TB SSD (STFS1000401) for my Mac Pro 2013. I formatted as two APFS volumes of 512GB, in one I made a CCC backup with High Sierra, to boot from it.

I often red that in this case it is better to enable TRIM (now disabled for this SSD), but I sent a question to LaCie support and I received this answer: "I must inform you that we strongly recommend not to enable it because it can affect the life span of the unit, as also explained in several Apple Care articles."

Is it right? Is it better to leave TRIM not enabled?

Mac Pro, macOS 10.13

Some SSD controllers perform TRIM within their controllers, and caution about using TRIM on the SSD. Take LaCie's support comments to heart. I have an older OCZ (Toshiba) SSD where the vendor at that time (e.g. 2011) warned not to use TRIM on it.
