I have been pleased that Apple has been upgrading movies I have purchased first in iTunes and now in Apple TV to 4K HDR. However, with the release of the Lord of the Rings trilogy in 4K HDR today, I was surprised to find that only the theatrical versions are now in 4K HDR - not the extended versions (which I own). Is this likely to change?
It's the same thing with me. I have all three of theatrical versions in 4K and I have the extended versions of Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers in 4K, but not Return of the King though.
I was looking forward to watching the extended editions this weekend, but I'm still waiting for Return of the King to show 4K.
The extended versions are available in 4k dolby vision/atmos in the uk
I bought the extended edition trilogy in HD a few years back, are they going to be upgraded to 4K or do I need to buy them again?
It's updated on my phone but not my iPad or AppleTV yet (in the US)
Man we are really getting boned in Denmark then. There are NO appendices or iTunes extras on any of my lotr movies. And my returen of the King and an unexpexted journey are still only HD

FYI the Extended editions are in 4K in the VUDU app.
I’ve bought all extended editions of the hobbit and lotr in the UK, 2 of the hobbit films have upgraded to 4K and only 1 lotr has upgraded
The extended 4K Atmos bundles for borne the Hobbit and LotR are now in the Danish iTunes
