I have been pleased that Apple has been upgrading movies I have purchased first in iTunes and now in Apple TV to 4K HDR. However, with the release of the Lord of the Rings trilogy in 4K HDR today, I was surprised to find that only the theatrical versions are now in 4K HDR - not the extended versions (which I own). Is this likely to change?
I am in the same position. But try this. On your Apple TV go to the TV app, goto Movies and scroll down to find the Middle Earth collection. I opened that and my extended versions for LOTR and Hobbit are all in 4K. Weird.
My guess is there is a glitch in rolling out the updates.

The extended 4K Atmos bundles for borne the Hobbit and LotR are now in the Danish iTunes
I wouldn’t count on it if you rely on playing through the Apple TV app.
its frustrating how the three platforms link your library but lacks quality consistency between them.
