Apple Mail "Exchange" emails disappear when moved to local folder

When I move mail messages from my Exchange account mailbox to a local

mailbox on my Mac, the messages go completely black and cannot be

recovered. I've spent hours on the phone with Go Daddy (who I purchased the email domain from). Tried deleting account, changing password and resetting. Didn't work. I have used local folders for years and never had an issue. Now, all my exchange emails are being lost (randomly) when I file them. Is it an upgrade issue? My Mac Book Pro is late 2013.. Catalina 10.15.7

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15
