Iphone 12 Pro Max Keeps Losing Wifi Signal

Hi, had my iPhone for just over a week and annoyingly everyday it keeps losing Wi-Fi signal at random points during the day. Only solution I have found so far is to switch Wi-Fi off in settings and switch it back on. Have reset router several times too. The problem is getting really annoying as I switched from Android after 15 years and have never had this issue with my previous Samsung 10 or Huawei P30 Pro and other android based phones. Anybody found a solution or is it a case of sending the phone back and going back to an android based phone?

I switched off wifi assist it’s in the setting/ cellular scroll all the way to the bottom

it appears to have stopped it from happening

apple put this feature in to switch to a cellar connection if a wifi signal is weak.

I was right in front of the router and it was switching so I just turned it off

Thanks for taking interest in what was an issue for me. I agree it is not a router issue and I still believe Apple have an issue with their iPhone 12 Pro Max at least with them dropping wi-fi connections too often to be reasonable. I think I resolved my issue by switching off the private IP address option in my wireless settings, not had a drop out over the last week since doing this (hopefully a permanent solution although I liked the idea of a private IP address for limiting tracking of my personal space!).

I had same problem on iPhone 12 pro max with wifi signal disconnecting and having to turn wifi off and back on again to join. Check your modem/router 2.5ghz and 5ghz frequency and make sure the name is set to the same for both not different. My modem for some reason had a different name for both so I changed it to the same thing and haven’t lost wifi signal since touch wood

Hi to all iPhone users with Wifi connection issues. After having tried to reset network settings on the phone and resetting the router which didn’t resolve the issue (with all other phones/ipads/TVs having no issue) and having had lengthy conversation with Apple Support / remote diagnostics of my phone which didn’t reveal any hardware/software issue, I ahve tried to turn off the “Connect-on-demand” in all my VPN client apps which finally resolved the issueand WIFI connection stays on with the download speeds at perfect values.

If you have started having your wifi-connection issues after having installed VPN client on your phone, try to switch off Connect On Demand.

Hope it helps!!!!

have a good day everyone!

So far so good but it was a pain in the ***.

Genius Bar did a full diagnostic found no issues, however, there have been cases of phones having issues when restoring from backup of older versions of phones like iPhone 5 or below.

I upgraded from an iPhone XS to the 12 pro max but my backed up data was originally from iPhone 4 days.

I had to wipe the phone and start as new, letting the iCloud download my data but not restoring from a backup image.

it is a real pain but it has given me the opportunity to do some well overdue house cleaning on my phone as 60% of the apps I haven’t even downloaded again.

So far the problem has not reoccurred since doing this! If it does I will update but I am hoping that this has resolved this pesky issue.

I was having this problem for almost a year since I got my Iphone 12. I do agree with some people that it must be an issue with certain routers. After a lot of things my solution goes against Apple guidelines but hey it has worked:

My solution:

I went to my modem/router configuration and just named the 2.4GHz and 5GHz WiFi signals different names. Before they had the same SSID. Currently I connect using the 2.4GHZ signal and it works 100% perfectly, hasn't dropped in weeks. No more miss notifications.

Hope it helps someone.

So this worked for me (at least for now), your mileage may vary...

  1. Powered down phone, power back on (kind of like a pc when random issues arise...)
  2. Go to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings (your phone will restart)
  3. Once phone powers back on, re-enter your wifi credentials.

Again, this worked for me for the past few days since implementing - which is tremendous considering I had to toggle wifi off/on multiple times a day to obtain expected bandwidth speeds. I'll follow up if this fix does no hold. Hope this helps.

Just to add another voice to this thread. I purchased an iPhone 12 Pro Max which suffered the same issue. I tried every workaround on every forum I can see but to no avail. Apple sent a replacement which suffers the same issue. Have tried on different routers but the issue persists. As with most on this thread and other forums it does not affect other devices on the same network. This can only be a hardware issue or software bug.

1. It doesn't matter if you restore from iCloud/iPhone or setup as a new phone.

2. No changes to settings fix the issue (although it did drop less when WiFi calling was enabled. It did still drop though)

3. Forgetting networks or factory reset does not rectify.

4. It occurs on different routers so not fault with that hardware or ISP.

5. The issue is is occurring on multiple iPhone 12 Pro Max (and other 12 model variants) whereas other devices suffer no dropouts.

I've got 2 days left to return my 2nd phone under the 14 day cool-down period. A shame that I have to.

Hello. I was also having this problem with my 12 Pro. I did not have it with my Xs even once that I can recall. I reset network settings, my phone, my modem and router several times but was not able to force a connection.

I use a mobile VPN service and noticed that when I toggled that connection on and off I would lose my home wifi connection. I was able to repeat it multiple times. I contacted the VPN provider who suggested that I change my VPN settings to OpenVPN (TCP). I did and though possibly coincidental and it may not last, I haven't had this issue since.

After 7 months of living through this pain with my 12 Pro and trying every config change you can think of to no avail, I reached breaking point last week and bought a new WiFi 6 enabled router. AT LAST! Finally I have a seamless iPhone 12 Pro experience after all this time. In my view I should not have to buy new network hardware to make an iPhone work correctly; my other 20+ connected devices all worked seamlessly using my trusted Netgear Orbi WiFi. Apple needs to address backwards compatibility with older WiFi standards; in my humble opinion this appears to be the crux of the matter for many in this thread. Sadly after 5 dot releases of iOS 14, I don’t hold out much hope. Best of luck everyone!

Fingers crossed they listen to you. They closed my call despite them saying they wouldn’t.

Saying that I purchased a tp-link Deco E4 mesh system and I haven’t had a dropout in over a month. So the fault is backwards compatibility with some (lots of) routers. As soon as I switch back to my IP provided router it happens again. Shoddy that I’ve had to spend another ton to fix apple’s issue.

I've sorted this and confirmed what I suspected. It's not good news for those of you using Google nest wifi. Apple has a major compatibility issue with these and many other brands of routers. I've moved both iOS devices to a Unify access point and the problem has gone. Apples networking stack had always been problematic and needs a total rewrite. I'm done with Apple

I was also dealing with no WiFi connection being established even though my iPhone was still picking up on all nearby WiFi signals. I tried every tip I found to no avail. Then I noticed there was a VPN toggle switch on the main settings page that seemed to be flickering on and off, so quickly to be almost undetectable. So I opened my VPN app, NordPass, and noticed that it was also toggling on and off rapidly, almost like it was stuck in a loop trying to connect to a server. I just deleted the VPN app and the problem is solved- my phone immediately connected to my home router. I guess I’ll try to reinstall the VPN and hope it was just a bug from a recent update or something. Hope this helps someone else out there!
