M1 Mac mini with old screen

I can see plenty of people have had issues trying to get their M1 minis to connect/recognise their screen. Same issue here. I'm trying to connect it to a Del 2007WFPb screen via HDMI and a HDI to DVI adapter. The screen stays back then says "please set the screen input resolution to 1680x1200@60Hz. But how can I do that when I have no display to get to System Preferences ?

I have a different issue trying to connect to my old Apply HD Cinema display, again using HDMI via DVI. The screen shows fine for approx 2 seconds, then goes completely fuzzy and unusable. Any reset/plug-unplug/reboot has the same effect. Any ideas ?

Thanks in advance.

Most adaptors I have found on the market are directional from Mini Display (Computer) to HDMI (Screen).

  • However, Startech have 1 Metre adaptor cable that is HDMI to Mini DisplayPort Cable 4K 30Hz and is USB Powered (Adapter Cable Code - HD2MDPMM1M - See below). Their website advises: Tested & verified with range of Mini DisplayPort (mini DP) monitors including Dell UltraSharp, Apple LED Cinema Display, LG, HP, Asus, Acer & ViewSonic

You will also need a Mini display port female to female coupler to connect it to your mini display port cable.

Still waiting for delivery but hoping this will provide the solution.
