exchange and apple mail

Recently, I have had to quit and restart Apple Mail in order to download new emails in my corporate microsoft exchange account. All my other accounts in Apple Mail still work fine.

No problem receiving the Exchange emails as long as I quit and restart Apple Mail, so all Exchange settings seem to be OK. Has anyone had a similar problem and been able to solve it?

Hi Glenn,

We understand that your Mail app on macOS Catalina does not show your new emails unless you quit the app.

First, we recommend checking your mail settings to see how often Mail is checking for messages. You'll find that from Mail > Preferences > General.

Try logging in to your provider's web mail to see if the same issue occurs there. That will help to determine if this is isolated to your Mail app or account.

Also, check out the tips in If you can’t receive emails in Mail on Mac which can help to resolve most Mail issues in Catalina.

We hope that helps!

I am having the same problem, and am at wits end. To get new email on my exchange account I have to reboot the computer (running 10.5.7). Quitting and restoring mail does not work, nor does taking accounts off and then back on line.

I can access new mail with no problem via the outlook app or via webmail without problems. I have rebuilt my inbox, and have deleted and reinstalled exchange, but to no avail.

I recently updated to Big Sur, and the problem of needing to quit Mail and reopen it so Mail would download MS Exchange messages persisted. I deleted the Exchange account, re-enabled it, and had the same problem, until last night, when it began working properly again.

But I've had this happen once before, while still using Catalina.

I'll keep everyone posted, whether it's working or not.

Thanks very much for your advice; I did check my settings, and all seem to be OK, however, I am experimenting with connecting to the exchange account in different locations, to see if the problem is specific to my being in one particular location; if it is specific to one location, then I can assume that the condition is caused by something external. I'll post an update as soon as I have completed those observations.

Thanks again! and best of the season to you!

Glenn
