iphone 12 dropping calls

My iPhone 12 Pro has been dropping nearly all calls since receiving after launch. The tech said "Oh, the diagnostic reported 13 out of 18 calls dropped recently, so that's not good". I purchased through Verizon, and have since gone through multiple resets, SIM card replacements and phone replacement and still have the same issues. All of the support was through Verizon and ultimately Verizon said this was a known issue with Apple and that I should take it up with them. So I just finished testing with an Apple tech, after over an hour on another phone I had to borrow to get this addressed. The Apple tech took it to his level 2 who ultimately said it was a Verizon issue, without a doubt because there is zero chance 2 new phones would have the same issue. They then placed me on hold because they said they wanted to bring Verizon on the call because I told them Verizon said to take it up with Apple. The Apple tech gave up after 35 minutes of being on hold and said we could try again later. Ha!

So no one is owning this known issue and I am stuck with a $1000 piece of garbage. Never again! I am going to have to shell out more money to get another phone and I am absolutely dropping Verizon as well. I would really like to know through all of this, is there anyone with the new iPhone 12 that is not having any dropped calls?

We have iPhone 12 and 12 Pro Max both on AT&T and not a single dropped call yet since launch of both.

This leads me to ask those who are having dropped call issues the following questions.

  1. Did you transfer the sim from your previous phone to your new phone? If you did, you should get a new sim which is provisioned for 5g
  2. Go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Voice & Data - What is it checked? If you live in an area with minimal to no 5G service (5G is still rolling out across a lot of the world), and your phone is set to 5G, you'll drop calls. Change it to 5G Auto or if you don't have 5G where you live to LTE

Otherwise it seems from those posting here, the common issue is Verizon. You should be hammering Verizon on this as it's most unlikely an issue with the phone. The entity who controls calls on your phone is not Apple. It is your cellular provider.

I purchased a brand-new iPhone 12 Pro three weeks ago (an upgrade from my iPhone X, which I purchased in the spring of 2018).

I have tried literally every tip and suggestion on every forum I can find and nothing works to fixed the dropped calls issue. Not resets, not shutting off WiFi calling, not turning off 5G, not adjusting any other settings--NOTHING. I am on U.S. Cellular's carrier service in an area with very good cell service, typically. My calls are dropping completely and just cutting out all over the place. It's terrible. I only have a cell phone for my business (solo attorney with lots of clients), so this is affecting my job badly.

I am just at a complete loss as to what to do. I think this is very clearly an Apple software issue with this phone model, but are there any plans in the work for actually fixing it?

And those co-workers all have phones with 5G modems? My guess would be no. Also define "a lot." Do you truly believe this thread represents a lot of iPhone 12 owners? If you were to start at the beginning of the thread and count the number of unique posters who are having an issue, you'd find it's not many people. It's important to note this is the largest iPhone forum in the world and yet out of the millions upon millions upon millions of iPhone 12 owners out there, very few seem to have found their way to this forum to complain.

That doesn't mean 'you' don't have a problem. But in contrast to you, no one I know with an iPhone 12 is having dropped call issues and I know several people with iPhone 12.

And for clarity, I never said no one on AT&T can't have dropped calls. But I'm willing to bet we don't live in the same city and therein is the difference. In my city, AT&T has done the rollout of 5G service really well. In another city, they may not have.

And while the dominant complaint in this thread has been with Verizon, that doesn't mean Verizon is bad everywhere. Again, some of my best friends with iPhone 12 are Verizon customers. And again, in my city, they are not having dropped calls.

I didn't shoot anything from the hip. There is NO issue with dropped calls on any iPhone 12 model I own or for that matter anyone in my office or any friends I have who own iPhone 12. And I know many who do. You are the one who asserted this has to an Apple Hardware issue. Other a claim on your part you study things as part of your career, you have not proven you have the qualification to prove your assertion of a hardware failure on the phone. You know, since we're claiming "shoot-from-the-hip."

Since we seem to actually agree on one point, which is this is predominantly a Verizon issue. I'll add a little wrinkle. I live in a pretty urban area. My brother has iPhone 12 on Verizon. Two of my best friends who I see more than once a week who both have iPhone 12 are on Verizon. 2 People in my office with iPhone 12 are on Verizon. Not one of these phones are having any issues with dropped calls.

That kind of shoots a hole in your assertion this is a hardware issue. I'm more inclined to believe, though unlike you I won't flatter myself to say I study this, this is an issue in different locations where Verizon has not implemented 5G service well - IN THAT LOCATION. Again, dispelling this as an Apple Hardware issue.
