It looks like I have storage space on iCloud but my device will not back up

I seem to have storage space in iCloud for a backup but my iPad will not backup

iPad Air, iOS 12

Back Up Storage is inflated so back up will not work I have 50GB of iCloud storage of which 3.7GB is used. However my iPad will not back up as it says my Next Backup Size is 898GB. This is nonsense as the total storage on my iPad is only 30GB. How do I resolve this so I can back up?

iCloud storage It seems not matter how much space I clear for backup it says I don’t have enough storage. Currently it appears I’m under 50GB data which I pay for monthly. But phone won’t back up

If the backup won't backup -- If you can't back up to iCloud or restore from iCloud backup failed - Apple Support.
