Hi Community

I just watched a movie with my macbook pro 13" 2017 connected with a usb-c dongle (i had two i tried) to a projector via HDMI . Everything was fine, except the constant white noise on the picture, like there was a connection problem with the HDMI cable or USB-C dongle, the sound was fine, just the picture, especially when the movie had dark images it would appear, in lighter scenarios not as much.

I think it's something to do with the macbook hardware (as i've had this occur on multiple macbook pro's 2016 onwards). I recently had a macbook air 2019, that worked fine, no display issues.

Tried multiple HDMI cables and two different usb-c dongles, satechi & twelvesouth staygo, and different hdmi ports . All got white noise problem. Occasionally, instantly after plugging in, screens turned green, which was weird.

Anyone's thoughts? Or experience this themselves?

We understand that you are seeing issues with movies when watching with your MacBook Pro with cables/adapters connecting it to a projector. You've already taken some great steps to start isolating the issue. There are some additional steps you can take to isolate this further. To start, you can create a temporary test user and see if this happens there: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

If possible, you can also start your MacBook Pro up in safe mode and see if you can watch movies with the projector there and note if this happens while in safe mode too: How to use safe mode on your Mac Also, it would be another good isolation step if you can try multiple apps to view movies and note if it happens in multiple ones.
