Apple diagnostics

I have a 2013 MacBook Pro that is having some issues for the past week. One avenue to solve problem was to run Apple Diagnostics. I shut down computer and restarted with option + D until I saw the process begin. I entered internet and password. For twelve hours it stayed at “Starting Internet Recovery.” Never proceeded past this point. Internet connection is sound. I don’t know how to cancel out as there is no other options on screen. Doesn’t seem save to force restart. Help?
