How do I manually force quit Apple diagnostics check?

My 2013 MacBook Pro is frozen during the beginning of Apple diagnostics check right after entry of internet password. There is no option shown for cancel or restart computer—only text “Starting internet recovery...” and a globe. How do I shut down safely?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

when you are running diagnostics or any recovery mode except an Install, your drive is not being accessed in a way that will cause any issues.

Most of recovery uses RAM disks, so that your drive is free to be repaired, if needed.

Because of what you are doing, a simple power off is OK.
