strange logic pro issue - very frustrating

I'm having a very strange issue where I when I attempt to open the editor it seems to be stuck on one region, and will only open that one region. For example, it continues to open up a drum region that I just programmed, but I do not want to open that region. Let's say for example I want to open and edit a piano region...when I select said piano region from the piano track, and double click on it, or press the editor button, it continues to ONLY open this one drum region. What gives? I've tried quitting and restarting Logic Pro, I've rebooted my computer, I've even tried the "revert to" option to open a previously saved copy. Nothing fixes it. Do I need to copy all my midi data and create a whole new project and paste over? I'm using the latest Logic Pro (10.6) on Big Sur.
