"Other" storage on macbook pro taking 30% of available storage. Help?

On my macbook pro, the "Other" category for storage is at 75GB - how can I figure out what is taking up that much space and clear it?

I have tried all other basic optimization steps (deleting files), I've tried clearing up Spotlight, I don't know what else to do. Other is taking up about 30% of my available storage.

Thus the recommendations in the user tip I linked. You need to figure out what is taking up the space. That means you either need to manually dig around in your ~/library folder using successive get info on multiple levels of nested folders to find the large ones, or use a third-party app like disk inventory X or omnidisk sweeper linked in the tip which automate the process and will show you a list of drive contents by size. Both of those are free, and safe to use.
