What hub/dock are you using successfully on a MBP M1?

I am looking for a hub/dock for my MBP M1 and there are too many available that all have pretty mixed reviews and few have any mention of compatibility with the new M1's. The features I'm looking for are:

  • Ethernet
  • HDMI
  • 2 or more USB A (at least one needs to support some power to run a backup disk)
  • USB C charging (can be pass through)

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.0

I have tried "anker powerexpand elite". When in clamshell mode, the external display does not wake from sleep.

I contacted caldigit to see if their docks have the same issue. They said they are aware of this issue and requested I contact apple to report it.

There are also other issues, like the MBP M1 "forgetting" the display settings when you use HDMI.

In short, I think there is an issue with the M1 which is causing problems with docking stations and display adapters in general. The same problem exists with the latest release - 11.1.

My current solution is a USB-C monitor with integrated hub - that works OK - but there are other issues related to refresh rate, HDR, etc - which annoyingly work via an HDMI adapter/dock but not direct through USB-C....

I would hold off on getting a dock for now, unless you are happy not to use clamshell mode, and only drive a TB3/USB-C monitor. Hopefully apple will fix these issues soon.
