Netflix/youtube video stutter on safari

Since installing the latest Mac os Big Sur, I find that all videos I play through various streaming sites stutter. I have tried netflix, youtube, amazon prime, etc. The audio plays fine, but the video stutters. I tried playing on other browsers and they appear to work fine on google chrome, however it is annoying I cannot use Safari. I did a bit of research and found that disabling the VP9 decoder option helps with some Youtube videos but this does not work for Netflix and other video streaming sites. Not sure if other people are experiencing the same?

Hello fchaudry,

We understand that the video of various streaming sites stutters when using Safari on your Mac. We’d be glad to assist.

To start, are you using any extensions in Safari? If so, does this issue continue if the extensions are disabled or turned off?

How to install Safari extensions on your Mac

Does this also happen while your Mac is in safe mode?

We hope that helps! Take care.
