The second of John B.'s suggestions (Webcam) seemed most appropriate for my uses. Although this app has extremely mixed reviews on the internet in general, it worked perfectly for my system (MacBook Pro Retina, running under OS 10.14.5.) For $9, I think to is worth a try to salvage use of a $60 webcam. Thanks, again, John B.
